Fitness Tip of the Week: Try Stand Up Paddleboarding

stand up paddleboarding

Try this popular fitness activity before summer comes to an end! Stand up paddleboarding is a relatively newer fitness trend that has continued to grow in popularity over the past couple of years. It offers numerous benefits in addition to being fun and a great way to enjoy the outdoors. Here are four reasons you should try it:

  • Full-body workout: You’ll use muscles throughout your body when you try stand up paddleboarding, especially those throughout your core and the smaller stabilizer muscles in the legs.
  • Balance booster: This activity requires you to balance the entire time you’re standing on the board. As you navigate through the water, you have to maintain your center of gravity—or you’ll probably take a dip! Improving your balance helps you ward off injuries, achieve greater athletic feats and build serious strength.
  • Non-impact activity: If you need to avoid high-impact sports or activities, stand up paddleboarding is a great option for strengthening. A lot of post-rehab patients enjoy this activity because it allows them to grow stronger without exposing them to setbacks.
  • Calming: Getting out on the water, finding a rhythmic movement and being outside are all instrumental in alleviating stress, elevating your mood and relaxing you.
